設置の趣旨・目的

　農林水産関係の学問・研究は、地域の自然環境をはじめ、その風土、社会情勢などと密接な関連をもっており、特にその地域特性は研究の推進に重要である。
　本研究科の基盤である佐賀大学、鹿児島大学及び琉球大学の所在する九州・沖縄は、太平洋暖流域に面し、温暖多雨、高日射という恵まれた気象条件、また肥沃な平坦地、火山灰土地帯、複雑な地形の山地や海岸線等により各々固有の生物生産が活発に行われている。
　このような背景のもとで、構成大学の教員組織、研究設備及び施設を連合して、博士課程の教育研究体制を作り、生物生産、生物資源の開発・保全ならびにバイオサイエンスに関する高度の専門的能力と豊かな学識をそなえた研究者を養成し、斯学の進歩と生物関連諸産業の発展に寄与することを目的とするものである。
　なお、社会人並びに外国人留学生、特に中国及び東南アジア等の諸国からの農水産学系への留学希望者を積極的に受け入れる。

Purpose of Foundation

　Studies in the fields of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries are closely related to the local natural environment, climate and social conditions, and the characteristics of each region have a bearing on the development
of these studies.
　The for allied universities, Saga University, Kagoshima University and University of the Ryukyus, are located in Kyushu and Okinawa.　This area is surrounded by warm Pacific currents and blessed with an ideal climate of plentiful sunlight and rain.　The varied topography of the islands, the mountains, flat lands, volcanic fields and very intricate coastlines offer an ideal environment for the study of agricultural and fisheries sciences.
　The United Graduate School, an independent doctoral sourse in Agricultural and Fisheries Sciences, was established here in order to train researchers with high-grade technical abilities and wide knowledge of the biosciences.　The purpose of this course is to contribute to the progress of studies in these fields and thereby to the development of related industries.
　The United Graduate School welcomes overseas applicants especially from China and Southeast Asia etc.
